About & Filing Policy

Journal is a curated web directory organised along the lines of an editorial wire service. Where a news bureau assigns reporters to specific beats — courts, finance, foreign affairs — Journal assigns categories to the sectors that make up the modern web. Each of the 22 desks covers a distinct slice of online commerce and information, from Animal Care, Pets & Vets to Technology, Apps & Software.

The index currently holds 835 approved entries. Before a site appears on any desk, it passes a basic editorial check: the domain must resolve, the content must be identifiable, and the listing must not duplicate an existing entry. The result is a directory where every filed source is at least nominally verifiable at time of indexing.

Wire services have always valued breadth alongside depth. Journal follows the same principle. The General & Miscellaneous desk alone holds 190 entries spanning arts collectives, social platforms, and niche consumer services — a holding file for the web's edges. Meanwhile, specialist desks like Print, Labels & Packaging or Property Sales & Rental carry smaller but tightly focused inventories.

Submission is open and free of charge. Operators with a legitimate site can file a dispatch through the submission form. The editorial desk reviews each entry and, if approved, files it under the appropriate category. There is no fee, no subscription, and no requirement to link back to Journal.

The directory is maintained as a reference tool for anyone who needs a starting point — researchers locating suppliers, journalists verifying operators, or ordinary users trying to find a service without relying solely on a search engine. It is not a ranking system and does not imply endorsement of any listed site.
